Short Biography of Dendi Madiya
Dendi Madiya was born in 1977 in Pelabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi, West Java. He is a theater director, writer and performer. His artistic experience began when he was a child until now with his artistic education, which he underwent mostly non-formally. Dendi has been a participant in dramaturgy workshops with mentors such as Peter Eckersall and Toshiki Okada. He has also attended performance art workshops taught by Melati Suryodarmo and Boris Nieslony. For Dendi, art is a way to reconsider reality. Struktur Rumah Tangga Kami (2013); Underscore: Copy Paste Sae (2019); Goyang Bulok (2023) were some of his performance works with the Artery Performa group. The theater script he wrote, Api Seluloid, was one of the selected scripts for the Jakarta Arts Council's Rawayan Award (2017). Dendi has been involved in international collaborations and residencies at the Asian Performing Arts Forum (APAF) in Japan and with the Shan Dong Ye Troupe in Taiwan, also involved in the Majelis Dramaturgi (Dramaturgical Assembly) forum initiated by Teater Garasi. His artistic activities are currently based in Bekasi, West Java.
